In April 2002, Patty Wlasiuk was found in Guilford Lake in Chenango County, New York. Her husband, Peter Wlasiuk, was convicted of her murder three separate times and is serving 25 years to life. His daughter, Ashlee, was nine. She learned the verdict from a boy at the fence during recess.
Then she learned that Patty was not her mother at all. Her mother died in a house fire the night before she was scheduled to be in court fighting for custody of her daughter. Her death had never been investigated.
Did You Kill My Mother? is a sardonic, darkly funny memoir about being conscripted into a murderer’s innocence campaign at an age when most kids are memorizing multiplication tables — and the slow, unwelcome suspicion that this could be serial.
